Motor Controller
Age: 16
Inspiration: A need for a better way of controlling prototypes on my robotics team
Purpose: Controlling up to five different motor controllers independently which in turn could control up to 5 different motors
Significance: This device should aid my robotics team greatly during the season.
This project was conceived because people on my robotics team needed to be able to control motors on their prototypes without a bulky control system. Basic switches were helpful, but didn't allow for variable speed control. This device fixed the problem. The device controls up to five different motor controllers using servo protocol PWM commands through the PWM cable connector on the right. The LCD screen prints out the speed of each motor in a percentage format while the bi-color LEDs tell the user the direction of each motor. The potentiometers and switches work together to control the speed and direction of each motor. Finally, the software prohibits the user from ever switching the direction of the motor while the motor is spinning. This not only protects the user, but the motors as well.
